10 good reasons  to come to Val d’Isère with the kids this winter

This winter, treat yourself to a relaxing ski holiday with the children. Boasting the Famille Plus seal of approval, Val d’Isère has a warm and friendly atmosphere and does everything possible to make families feel welcome. Here are 10 good reasons to come to Val d’Isère with the kids this winter.

1. To learn to ski the easy way

Your budding young skiers will soon feel at home in the mountains under the professional guidance of our local instructors who will teach them to ski in the safety of the beginner slopes:

  • At the foot of the slopes in the village centre, with the ski kindergarten and the Savonnette green slope.
  • At the foot of the slopes in La Daille, on the Lanches green slope.

At the ski kindergarten, children learn to ski in small groups, in a protected space featuring fun facilities intended to help them progress, including a magic carpet, obstacles and various characters who welcome them with a cheerful smile…

To ski like the adults, they can head to the top of the mountain! Take them on the lifts to 2,500 metres, where you’ll find the ValKids fun area which has been designed specifically for children. Here, they’ll have fun progressing on skis and learning about mountain professions at the same time!

2. To relax with the family at the Centre Aquasportif

Fun pools, counter-current swimming lane, water cannons, massage jets, bubble beds and a swimming pool… A dream after your day on the slopes. Make the most of the loungers in the beach area to relax and admire the immensity of the mountains, or watch the snow falling outside.

3. To learn something new at the media library and the museum

If the weather isn’t great, take the opportunity to spend an afternoon educating yourself at Val d’Isère’s media library. It’s a pleasant place to read, listen to music or choose your next DVD for the family to watch. While you’re there, you can also play video games or try the virtual reality experience (internet and wifi service). At the Maison de Val, you can also visit the museum to learn all about our beautiful village, its history, its founders and its champions.

4. To visit  the animals at the Adroit Farm

Take the family to see how a mountain farm is run from day to day. A fun experience is organised for children aged 3-8 years, and you can round off your visit with a cheese-tasting session. If that whets your appetite, you can purchase the farm’s own products before you leave (cheese, milk, cottage cheese, blueberry coulis, etc.).

5. To feast your eyes during shows and events in the village

Make the most of the events and shows that have the village buzzing during the school holidays. The programme includes fireworks displays, ice sculptures, concerts, torchlight descents, cross-country ski races and many more surprises!

6. To have fun to your heart's content in the snow

To round off the day in style, if you have any energy left you can have a go at Airboarding, the mountain version of bodyboarding that makes you feel as if you’re flying above the snow. Or you can try snake-sledding on a futuristic sledge that glides across the snow like a snake, or whiz down the slope on a yooner, the latest form of sledging in which you ride close to the ground for a thrilling ride and amazing sensations! Every evening from 5.45pm, on the Savonette slope equipped with lighting and a sound system.

Alternatively, you can have a race on mini electric snowmobiles! Your children will experience brand new sensations as they learn to negotiate bends and pick up speed in the safety of the designated area at the foot of the slopes.

7. To get your skates on and take to the ice

Val d’Isère has an outdoor skating rink in the village centre. Located near the foot of the slopes, the rink is open both daytime and evening. All sorts of activities are organised on the ice and hot drinks are served too!

8. To go for a ride on a dog sled in the Manchet Valley

For your first ride on a dog sled, come and share this unique experience with our experienced team, in the magical surroundings of Val d’Isère… If you have a way with animals and are fascinated by the bond between human and dog, come and try dog-sledding for a truly amazing adventure.

9. To observe chamois and ibex

Enjoy the timeless experience of observing ibex and chamois in the heart of the Vanoise National Park. The rangers of the Bailletaz nature reserve are here every Thursday during the school holidays, to guide your observation of the winter wildlife.

10. Our childcare facilities at the Chalet des Aiglons

Enjoy peace of mind while skiing in the knowledge that we are taking care of your little ones.

The programme is flexible: half-day options with or without lunch, full day, with or without skiing, or a weekly rate. Depending on their age, children can join in with all sorts of indoor and outdoor activities under the professional supervision of qualified staff.

Activities include outdoor games, walks, early-learning activities, hands-on workshops, excursions with picnics, learning about the mountain environment, and so on.
