What to do during The spring off-season May and June

As the winter season draws to a close, the village becomes a peaceful place again, letting nature take over as it bursts back into life. The snow gradually melts away, revealing mountain pastures where the first flowers are emerging from the ground. Herds of ibex descend from the summits and curious marmots reappear as the mountains are gently shrouded in silence. This is the perfect time to slow the pace, breathe the fresh air and discover from a new angle the soothing wilderness of Val d’Isère in all its authenticity.

Taking the time to blossom 4 May to 3 July 2026: the spring off-season

Before the summer season gets into full swing, the off-season period offers a precious opportunity to recharge your batteries away from the hustle and bustle of the city, take time out for yourself and reconnect with nature. Fancy a little peace and quiet, a chance to go hiking or just enjoy the fresh air? Here’s a selection of things to do in Val d’Isère during the months of May and June.

Places that stay open in the village

Bars, restaurants, bakeries, hotels, shops, medical centre, etc. Check out our (non-exhaustive) list of businesses open during the off-season.

Are you familiar with our programme for this summer? Foire Savoyarde Avaline, French Trail Running Championships, Fête du Vieux Val … there’s something for everyone!

What to do in the off-season Check out our suggestions!

  • In May, we recommend the south-facing Balcon trail, one of the first hiking routes to become accessible as the snow melts quickly here. In June, head into the superb Vanoise National Park, truly the jewel of Savoie, which spreads between the Maurienne and Tarentaise regions. Here, the trails take you exploring an unspoilt wilderness where you may spot bearded vultures, royal eagles, ibex, chamois and, of course, marmots! -> see hiking itineraries
  • The Col du Petit St Bernard, the pass leading to Italy, opens in June, depending on weather conditions, as does the Col de l’Iseran. So take advantage of this opportunity to discover sublime landscapes cut off from the rest of the world. Accessible by car or bike, these passes are only open for a few months of the year, offering a multitude of hiking routes in the Maurienne valley where you can visit, for example, the lovely village of Bonneval sur Arc, just 30 km from Val d’Isère via the Iseran pass.
  • As soon as the Col de l’Iseran opens in early June, head to Solaise for a peaceful day by Lac de l’Ouillette, the perfect spot for a family walk or a picnic in the great outdoors. For paragliders, there’s a launch slope just behind the lake and a landing area in the Manchet sector. Take flight!
  • Did you know that you can spend the night in an unattended refuge? During the off-season period, the Fond des Fours and Prariond refuges remain open, offering the authentic experience of sleeping at a remote spot in the mountains. After your stay, don’t forget to pay online as your contribution to the upkeep of these refuges.

Aquasportif Centre Opening dates and times

During the off-season period, only certain facilities of the Aquasportif Centre are accessible.

Annual closure from May 4 to May 17, 2026.

Thrills galore! Climbing peaks and admiring the view!

Climb to the top of the cliff on one of our Via Ferrata courses! Don’t forget to bring your own safety equipment. The via ferrata routes open as early as June, but we sometimes have to postpone the opening date until the young bearded vultures fly the nest. Indeed, the Daille cliffs are the perfect nesting place for bearded vultures 🙂
