Val d’Isère offers an exceptional playground for trail running enthusiasts, some 1,850 metres above sea level. Between mountain trails, forest paths, nature reserves and breathtaking views over the Vanoise National Park, the resort provides the perfect setting to train, challenge yourself and push your boundaries in a spectacular unspoilt environment.
For summer 2026, a new event is coming to Val d’Isère from 21 to 23 August: the Marathon des Sables – Crazy Loops. Accessible to all, this original event inspired by the famous Marathon des Sables promises to be lots of fun. The concept: participants compete individually or in teams, completing however many laps they wish around Lake Ouillette for a duration of 3, 6, 9, 12 or 24 hours. Anyone can join in with this sporting and human adventure set against an exceptional mountain backdrop.
The resort will also host the High Trail Vanoise race, a key fixture in the alpine trail running calendar, organised in Val d’Isère since 2011. On 11 & 12 July 2026, participants of all levels will follow their chosen route, ranging from highly challenging to more accessible trails, to explore the breathtaking landscapes of the Vanoise region.
Between an innovative new event and an iconic race that’s well-established in the resort’s sporting calendar, Val d’Isère proves once again that there’s no better destination for trail runners.
