Val d’Isère on the official map of the 2030 Winter Olympics

On Monday 29 June 2026, Val d’Isère was officially selected to host the men’s and women’s alpine skiing technical events for the 2030 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, on the Face de Bellevarde.

An official decision by the IOC

The International Olympic Committee has today approved, on the recommendation of the Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (COJOP Alpes 2030), the final map of venues for the 2030 Winter Games. Val d’Isère is included on the map and will host the men’s and women’s alpine skiing technical events – slalom and giant slalom – in February 2030.

The events will take place on two separate slopes, in the heart of the village. The Olympic Stadium will host the men’s events, whilst the La Joseray slope will host the women’s events. Both courses have entirely separate race lines, allowing the snow to be prepared specifically for each event and ensuring the finish line is at the foot of the resort, in front of the spectators. A rare advantage at this level of competition, the venue offers spectators at the foot of the slopes a view of nearly 90 per cent of the course.

A vision for the region; a venue ready to host the event

Beyond sport, this confirmation reflects a vision: that of a mountain region taking part in a collective national and international adventure, with a view to promoting the French Alps, passing on Olympic and Paralympic values, and fostering responsible development.

True to the model it has championed from day one, Val d’Isère is proposing Games designed to suit a region that is already well-equipped:

◆ a project based on existing facilities, without any unnecessary infrastructure;

◆ exceptional compactness, with 95 per cent of the facilities concentrated within an 800-metre radius, accessible on foot or by electric shuttle;

◆ a legacy that extends beyond the resort: useful to both residents and athletes, it benefits the whole of French competitive skiing;

◆ a regional governance structure that closely involves mountain local authorities, the sporting community and the State.

“It is an honour and a source of collective pride. Val d’Isère has been a centre for skiing and competition since 1934. Hosting the Olympic athletes in 2030 means writing a new chapter in this history, driven by the whole community: our accommodation providers, our local businesses, the Sports Club, and all those who have never stopped believing in it, foremost among them Jean-Claude Killy, a loyal supporter of Val d’Isère since December 2023. What we are achieving here in terms of elite sport benefits the whole resort, but also the entire French skiing community. We will rise to the challenge, true to who we are.” Xavier Mattis, Mayor of Val d’Isère.

Val d’Isère stands ready to work alongside the COJOP, local authorities, sporting bodies and the State to ensure the success of an exemplary project, true to the values of the Olympic Movement and the realities of mountain regions.
