Late August is one of the most beautiful times of year to explore Val d’Isère, while the days are still long and the mountain colours begin to slowly change. The atmosphere is peaceful, temperatures are ideal for outdoor activities, and there are plenty of activities and events that continue to bring the village to life.

21 to 23 August Marathon des Sables Crazy Loops

From 21 to 23 August, Val d’Isère will be hosting the Marathon des Sables – Crazy Loops for the first time. For 24 hours, participants, either solo or as part of a team, run or walk at their own pace on a loop trail, day and night, with one goal: to complete as many loops as possible.

This event is much more than just a standard competition, it is a sporty, festive and inclusive experience, open to everyone. Runners, walkers, families, children, teams with disabilities and volunteers all take on the same challenge, where pushing yourself to the limit goes hand in hand with solidarity. Even if you’re just there to watch, soak up the unique energy that will bring Val d’Isère to life over this action-packed weekend.

29 August Bellevarde Uphill Flow NEW

On Saturday 29 August, the very first La Bellevarde Uphill Flow offers the chance for e-MTB enthusiasts and beginners to take on the ride up Bellevarde along a specially designed route. Riders can expect entertainment, refreshment stops and fun challenges on the way up the Fée Magique trail all the way to the top.

This is more than just a gathering, it is an event to end the summer in style, in a fantastic atmosphere. After all the effort comes the fun, with a concert, barbecue and raffle, offering one last chance to enjoy a great day in the mountains before the new season begins.

20 to 23 August Braderie des Commerçants

From 20 to 23 August, the stalls of the Braderie des Commerçants will be taking over the streets of Val d’Isère for four days. Shops and restaurants will be offering some exceptional deals to end the season, and there will be musical entertainment every day from various brass bands and batucada throughout the village.

You’ll have a chance to take advantage of all the best deals in fashion, outdoor gear, decoration, souvenirs and local products at this unmissable event with a festive atmosphere.

23 August Fête de l'Ouillette

The Fête de l’Ouillette is an unmissable end-of-summer event, to celebrate one of Val d’Isère’s most iconic sites. This festive day is organised by the Val d’Isère fishing association, and people of all ages are welcome to come and embrace the warm and friendly atmosphere around the Lac de l’Ouillette.

On the programme: grilled dishes, lunch all together and a concert from midday, in an exceptional, natural mountain setting.

25 August Tour de l'Avenir

The 62nd edition of the Tour de l’Avenir will be passing through the centre of Val d’Isère before a spectacular finish at the Col de l’Iseran. This sixth stage will take riders from Châtillon-sur-Cluses to Val d’Isère on a challenging 149-km route with almost 5,000 metres of elevation gain.

The Tour de l’Avenir is a key international event for world’s top young cyclists and a springboard for future champions. You can expect a thrilling day of racing on the roads around Val d’Isère, culminating at an altitude of 2,770 metres.

Set off to explore the village and its trails

The end of the summer is the perfect time of year to set off exploring in and around Val d’Isère.

Guided outings are a chance to learn about the history, heritage and listen to local anecdotes about the unique village of Val d’Isère. Guided walks are an invitation to observe local flora and fauna, and admire the spectacular Alpine scenery alongside passionate professionals.

Thanks to the mild temperatures and less crowded paths, this is undoubtedly one of the best times of year to really embrace the mountains.

Free lifts open Until 30 August

  • To reach the summit of Solaise, at an altitude of 2,550 metres, take the Solaise gondola (pedestrians only). This summit is perfect for hikers looking to enjoy the peace and quiet of the surroundings and spectacular views over the village, with Lac du Chevril in the distance, as well as the Manchet Valley.
  • To reach the summit of Bellevarde, at an altitude of 2,827 metres, take the Olympique cable car. The summit is accessible to both pedestrians and mountain bikers. It offers not only exceptional views, but also direct access to the Bike Park for mountain biking enthusiasts.

The Bike Park Tignes – Val d’Isère is an unmissable place if you’re looking for a biking experience in the mountains. The lifts stay open until the 30 August, so it is very easy to get to the various tracks and the 230km of trails.

Try out the activities at the Parcs des Sports

If you’re looking to try a whole range of activities, the various sports facilities in Val d’Isère, the Parc des Sports du Centre and the Parc des Sports du Manchet have something for the whole family. Tennis, padel, horse riding, crazy golf, Gel Blaster and so many more activities to keep you busy when you’re not out hiking, or to simply enjoy a fun, sporty experience with loved ones. Everyone chooses the activity they’d like to try from a wide range of possibilities for all ages.

Enjoy free activities and entertainment

At the end of August, there is also a range of free activities & entertainment on offer every week. Photo scavenger hunts, football and petanque sessions, introduction to trampolining, beach volleyball tournaments, Mölkky, video games, activities at the media library, arts and crafts and DIY workshops, and the “En selle Gaston” balance bike event. There’s so much going on, so children, teenagers and parents can all experience something new on holiday.

In Val d’Isère, the day doesn’t end when the sun sets behind the mountains.

Throughout the whole season, outdoor concerts, shows and other musical events take place in the evenings in a fantastic atmosphere. For a perfect summer evening in the mountains, choose from the jazz or rock concerts, acoustic performances and concerts from local musicians.
