24 hours in the Val d’Isère the must-sees

Spending the summer in the Val d’Isère is about relaxing in the heart of the mountains. Discover Savoyarde traditions and try out a multitude of activities! The authentic villages of the Val d’Isère are full of history – take a walk along the trails accompanied by one of our mountain guides, and enjoy the folklore of the village festivals and delicious local produce. A whole programme for a unique holiday full of adventure. Here are our tips for spending a day here!

Morning: full of history and Alpine panoramas

An authentic village Enjoy a visit in the morning! 8am -> 10:30am

Here, the narrow streets are steeped in history and the architectural heritage has been beautifully preserved! Start your day with a stroll through our village, walking past the 11th-century church of St Bernard de Menthon and admiring the stone and wood houses with their gabled roofs covered in slate tiles. For breakfast, we recommend a stop at Maison Chevallot, a traditional Savoyarde bakery par excellence. If you prefer a guided tour, you have two options:

  • The famous guided tour “Il était une fois Val d’Isère en été” (Once upon a time in summer in the Val d’Isère). Find out more.
  • Explore and understand our mountain region on an 18-km e-Bike tour. Find out more.

Hike to the Lac de l’Ouillette Panorama with lakes and mountains 10:30am -> 12pm

Take the Solaise cable car to the start of the trail leading to Lac de l’Ouillette. This hike features breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks and allows you to discover the rich alpine fauna, including marmots and bearded vultures.

A lunch break on the terrace please! 12pm -> 2pm

Two locations set in nature A moment suspended in time in the heart of the mountains.

Set in the middle of the mountains, the ferme de l’Arsellaz offers a full mountain lunch every day (booking required) with cold meats, omelettes, cheese and blueberry tart, lovingly prepared by Marie Pierre and her family. It can be reached quickly from Lake Ouillette via a small signposted path that descends directly to the farm before reaching the Manchet valley.

If the walk around Lake Ouillette whets your appetite, head to the restaurant La Plage de l’Ouillette, a unique spot offering a delightful gourmet break at high altitude overlooking the lake.

In the afternoon: choose between sport and relaxation. 2pm -> 6pm

Cool off at the water's edge You have two options:

To spend the afternoon at an outdoor pool, head to the hotel-restaurant Le Blizzard. But remember that you need to book because availability depends on the time of the year. Access to the swimming pool is not exclusively for hotel guests. To access the pool, please contact the establishment directly. At Le Manchet you’ll also find the Relais pool – accessible by booking in advance – outside the village with views of the mountains! There are also some pretty little hidden spots around the village where you can stretch your legs and cool off in the streams and natural water features! This free alternative will allow you to discover new locations in the heart of nature whilst trying cryotherapy. Very popular with athletes, it can treat inflammatory problems and relieve muscles after intense exercise. Here are two great places to try it:

  • The cold water pool behind the Saint Charles bridge, an ideal place to relax on the grass and admire the view!
  • The Sources trail between Le Crêt and La Daille, where numerous springs flow between meadows and larch woods. One of the most relaxing places in the village for reading, strolling and picnicking.

Combine sport and fun surrounded by mountains

When it comes to sports, choosing Val d’Isère as your destination means you have a wide range of options! Are you more into cycling? Hiking? Climbing? Tennis? Archery?

  • Try the Bike Park Tignes – Val d’Isère with more than 230km of trails, and discover incredible landscapes with forests, lakes, panoramic views and pastures.
  • Try one of our two Via ferrata at La Daille and admire the village from above. Another option is to make a detour to the Val’Aventure park, a tree-top adventure course located on the edge of the village. Open to children aged 4 and above, the park is fully equipped with 100% secure continuous high ropes.
  • Take a stroll through one of our sports parks, and enjoy a wide range of individual and team sports! Tennis, paddle tennis, golf, horse riding, fitness, biathlon, archery and more.

Stock up at the Adroit farm. 6pm -> 7pm

La ferme de l’Adroit welcomes families and cheese lovers for comprehensive tours, from the cowshed to the dairy. In summer, the herd of 30 dairy cows, mainly magnificent French Browns, graze in the meadows of Val d’Isère after spending the winter indoors. The shop sells 13 locally-produced cheeses, such as Avalin, as well as delicious homemade ice cream to enjoy on site for afternoon tea.

To get there, head to the end of the village towards Fornet. At the last roundabout in the village next to the fire station, turn left and you will find the Ferme de l’Adroit.

An evening of socialising and delicious food. 7pm -> 9pm

Val d'Isère a way of life
