A high-altitude village at 1850 m, Val d’Isère welcomes skiers for spring skiing until May 6: sun, snow and mild temperatures to glide into summer. Our ski touring news, events, entertainment and end-of-season offers:
26th Festival du Film Aventure & Découverte, the cultural event of spring
From April 17 to 20, Val d’Isère organizes the 26th edition of its Festival International du Film Aventure & Découverte at 1850 m altitude. A springtime cultural rendezvous, the four-day festival features 11 après-ski screenings at the Centre des Congrès, in cinemas and online. The films in the selection are presented by travel writer Sylvain Tesson in the presence of the adventurers and directors. Debates, meetings, events and exhibitions around the projects make the festival a concentrate of human exchanges where the public takes part in the adventure. In addition to sharing, what’s at stake for the teams behind the films in competition are the prizes: the Audience Award, the Ushuaïa Prize and the three prizes awarded by the year’s jury, including the Aigle d’Or de l’Aventure, recently awarded to “Yukon, un rêve blanc” by Mathieu Le Lay.

Family holidays
The Easter vacations are an opportunity to rediscover the ski area as a family, with several organized events: egg hunts at altitude on the Val Kids and Village Perdu play areas, snake gliss egg race on the Savonnette piste (snow front), show and meet with large birds of prey including the golden eagle, Val d’Isère’s emblem from the Val Kids, chamois and ibex observation with Vanoise National Park rangers on the Pont Saint Charles trail, initiation and rides on electric Fat Bikes on the village trails etc.
Val d’Isère, which has been awarded the “Famille Plus” label, has been offering free ski passes up to the 8th birthday since this winter.
In the heart of nature: ski touring and mountain refuges
Val d’Isère in spring is also an opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors on ski touring. Beyond the village, its hamlets and its ski area, we discover another Val d’Isère in the heart of the Vanoise National Park. With 50% of the commune in the park, different massifs, orientations and altitudes, the playground for ski touring is vast. Along the way we discover 2 guarded refuges for lunch or overnight stays: Refuge du Fond des Fours, Refuge de Prariond.
At the bottom of the Manchet valley, beneath the slopes of the Arcelle, the Arsellaz farm opens for lunches in spring to welcome hikers and off-piste skiers, and offers two menus to regain your strength: the Savoyard fondue with charcuterie plate and blueberry tart (33€/pers) and the chalet plate with its cheeses, charcuterie, tomatoes and hard-boiled eggs (22€/pers). This little hidden paradise is run by Marie Pierre and her husband and opens every spring and summer.
