Drones in Val d’Isère Rules and procedures

The use of drones in Val d’Isère (including the village, ski area and Vanoise National Park) is strictly regulated by European legislation. Whether you are an amateur or a professional, it is important that you comply with these rules to ensure the safety of people and to protect the environment.

Procedures to follow before flying

Before flying a drone in Val d’Isère, here are the steps to follow:

1. Check local restrictions

Flying a drone over the Vanoise National Park is prohibited without special permission. The village and ski area are sensitive areas due to the presence of large numbers of people and infrastructure.

2. Ensure your drone complies with regulations

Your drone must comply with the applicable European standards (CE classification and class label). Mandatory registration on AlphaTango.

3. Choose the correct usage scenario

Depending on the weight of your drone and the type of flight (near people, in urban areas, etc.), you must comply with a specific scenario (Open A1/A2/A3 or Specific C0-C5).

4. Consult the official flight zone maps

Use Géoportail and DroneKeeper to check the restrictions in force.

5. Obtain the necessary authorisations

For any flight not covered by the Open scenarios, authorisation from the DGAC is required. Request approval from the local authorities.

6. Contact local authorities for drone use in urban areas

For any drone use above urban areas (such as the village, which includes the entire La Daille heliport area), you must contact the prefecture (five days in advance by email) to obtain the necessary authorisations and find out about specific restrictions. For drone operation near the Val d’Isère heliports (Solaise and La Daille), you must notify slope management (service.pistes@valdisere.fr) or local authorities to ensure the safety of aircraft approaching or taking off.

Flying a drone In compliance with the law

Val d’Isère has some magnificent scenery, but drone use in the area is closely monitored. To avoid any problems:

  • Consult Géoportail, and cross-reference the information with DroneKeeper to check that your flight zone is accessible for your chosen scenario.
  • Contact the local authorities three days in advance (service.pistes@valdisere.fr) and the prefecture five days in advance (prefecture@savoie.gouv.fr) if you are a professional and flying over an urban area.
  • Flying a drone over the Vanoise National Park is strictly prohibited.
  • Respect the safety zones around the slopes and the village, and keep a safe distance from the resort’s ski lift facilities.
