The 2770m Col de l’Iseran, the highest paved road in the Alps, is open. This heralds the opening of Val d’Isère’s summer season, which includes skiing on the Pisaillas glacier.230816-1

 

SUMMER ON THE COL DE L’ISERAN

  • Skiing on the Pissaillas glacier (at 3400 m) from June 8th. The road from Val d’Isère until the Iseran pass is opened from June 8th (from 6am to 1pm).
  • Iserane – road cycling event on June 23th:

On Sunday, June 24th the whole Iserane pass road is closed to traffic, allowing cyclists to freely climb the 920m from the resort to the top of the pass before the downhill descent back to Val, or down to the pretty village of Bonneval-sur-Arc in the Maurienne Valley.

  • Reborn, the Chamois Rally on June 29th & June 30th :

In 2016, some 500 enthusiastic motorcyclists from all over the world climbed the col in a recreation of the original rally. This summer they are gathering once again in Val d’Isère for a weekend of fun and entertainment. Entry is free for all, and camping is available. https://www.rallyedeschamois.com/

  • The High Trail Vanoise, July 5 – 7:

Val d’Isère is hosting a truly exceptional weekend for trail runners. The High Trail Vanoise is made up of five different routes for all levels of athlete and it takes place against the beautiful backdrop of the Haute Tarentaise and Maurienne Valleys: the Vertical Kilometre up the Face de Bellevarde, Le Grand Parcours (67km and 5400 vertical metres), Le Trail des 6 Cols (39km, 3200 vertical metres), Les Balcons de Val d’Isère (18km, 1300 vertical metres), and there’s even a trail for kids.

  • Explore the Col de L’Iseran:

Come and search for high altitude flora with a mountain guide. You can reach the col by free shuttle bus only on thursdays, and the one-hour Flower Tour takes place every Thursday from July 19th to August 16th.
