Around Val d’Isère you’ll get the chance to explore a landscape that is a designated conservation area, with flowers and animals in their natural habitat – with a bit of luck you’ll get to see marmots and ibex. Certainly you’ll spy a chamois, or maybe a golden eagle soaring overhead. You’ll see glaciers, little green valleys, lakes, and waterfalls. This protected region, sandwiched between the Tarentaise and Maurienne valleys, will enchant children, hikers, and climbers alike. Spend a night in the Refuge du Prariond, an hour’s walk from the Pont St Charles, or at the Fond des Fours, a two-hour hike from the resort.
TIP!
Trek for a full or half-day with a park guide (outings are possible for those with limited mobility), in the Grande Sassière Nature Reserve on Wednesdays
