24H in Val d'Isère the must-sees

Spending the summer in Val d’Isère means taking a break in the heart of the mountains, discovering Savoyard traditions and enjoying a multitude of activities! Stroll through Val d’Isère’s typical village full of history, hike the trails accompanied by one of our mountain guides, enjoy the folklore of village festivals and cultural events, taste delicious local produce and forge links with the people of Val d’Isère – a whole program for a vacation full of change of scenery and discovery.

.

Discover an authentic village

Val d’Isère’s alleyways are brimming with history, and its architectural heritage has been carefully preserved! Start your day with the famous “Once upon a time in Val d’Isère in summer” guided tour, and our village will no longer hold any secrets for you. Relive its destiny during a guided stroll and discover how this small mountain village became an internationally renowned ski resort.

Mountain lunch at the Arsellaz farm

Located right in the middle of the mountains, La ferme de l’Arsellaz offers every lunchtime by reservation its complete mountain meal with charcuterie, omelette, cheese and blueberry tart lovingly prepared by Marie Pierre and her family. It’s easy to reach from the Manchet valley via a path through the old hamlet, or from the Vanoise National Park. For a longer hike before lunch, we climb up to Lac de l’Ouillette from the village, via the Arolle Millénaire or the Plan de Solaise, before descending via the new path to the Ferme de l’Arsellaz.

In the afternoon, we choose between swimming and hiking according to our mood of the moment!

Refresh in the afternoon Two alternatives

To spend the afternoon by an outdoor pool, head for the hotel restaurant l’Altitude or Le Blizzard. Please note, booking is essential as availability depends on the period. Access to the pool is not reserved exclusively for hotel guests, but you will have access if you wish to have lunch there. At Le Manchet you’ll also find the Relais swimming pool, accessible by reservation, away from the village with a view of the mountains!

There are also lovely little hidden spots around the Village to stretch your legs and cool off in the natural streams and watering holes! This free alternative allows you to discover new places in the heart of nature and practice cryotherapy. Widely used by sports enthusiasts, it can treat inflammatory problems and relieve muscles after intense effort. Here are two nice places to discover:

  • The cold-water pool behind the Saint Charles bridge, an ideal place to rest on the grass and admire the view!
  • The sentier des Sources located between Le Crêt and La Daille where numerous springs flow between meadows and larch woodland. One of the village’s most relaxing spots for reading, strolling and picnicking.

Hiking and criss-cross the mountain

Take the hiking itinerary that appeals most to us! At altitude to admire the panorama, in the forest for the freshness, beside a lake for the beautiful view or not far from a waterfall to cool off… go in search of chamois, ibex and little marmots in the mountains! Don’t forget your camera – a change of scenery guaranteed!

Stocking up at Ferme de l'Adroit

La ferme de l’Adroit welcomes families and cheese lovers for complete tours, from the cowshed to the dairy. In summer, the herd of 30 dairy cows, mainly magnificent Brunes des Alpes, roam the meadows of Val d’Isère after a winter indoors. The store sells 13 locally-produced cheeses, such as Avalin, as well as delicious artisanal ice creams, which you can sample on the spot.

To get there, go to the end of the village in the direction of Le Fornet. At the last roundabout in the village, next to the fire station, turn left and you’ll find Ferme de l’Adroit.

Find the perfect restaurant for the evening

After a busy day, there’s nothing like regaining your strength over a good meal prepared with fresh produce to delight your taste buds! Pizza, fondue, crepe, pad thai or burger? You’ll be spoilt for choice.

Night rides And mindfulness walking

If you’d like to end the day gently in the midst of nature and reconnect with your surroundings, we’ve got just the thing for you! Franck Bortolotti, an inspired mountain guide, guides a new walk at the end of the day in the forests of Val d’Isère, at dusk and without artificial light, to listen to nature, but also to give meaning back to your senses. Also this summer, he’ll be introducing you to mindful walking in three phases in the midst of nature. The walk is slow to anchor you in movement, and allows you to open up to your inner self with the aim of opening up to others and your environment. This 2-hour outing is aimed at receptive adults. Registration at the Tourist Office.
