What to do during The off-season in Val d'Isère September, October, November

Autumn is a magical time, here in the hollow of the mountains. The village empties out to make way for nature, which in turn makes its presence felt. The forests take on pretty orange and yellow hues, the ibex come down from their perches and peace and quiet arrive.

A haven of peace in the hollow of the mountains

Before the winter season gets into full swing, let’s recharge our batteries away from the hustle and bustle of the cities, take time to think about ourselves and reconnect with nature!
Here’s a compilation of things to do during autumn in Val d’Isère.

  • Do you know the Parc National de la Vanoise? This jewel of Savoie, along its 1,979 km² spread between the Maurienne and Tarentaise regions offers you hiking itineraries allowing you to spot incredible flora and fauna such as bearded vultures, eagles, ibex, chamois and marmots!
  • Go up the side of Solaise and stroll around Lac de l’Ouillette. At the end of the lake, an extraordinary panorama with views stretching over the village of Val d’Isère to Lac du Chevril. A more challenging hike to reach the summit of Bellevarde and discover a view overlooking the village of Val d’Isère with the superb Mont Blanc in the background, which can be seen on a clear day.
  • Many hiking trails allow you to criss-cross the territory, so you’ll be able to find the one that suits you best depending on the time and difficulty you want. Take the opportunity to discover the lost village located at the top of the Daille, this relaxing area will allow you to pass from tree to tree on beautiful suspended footbridges made from Alpine larches!
  • For lovers of photography and video, autumn is the perfect time to capture pretty colors without having to use any retouching software! #nofilterneeded
  • The Col du petit St Bernard to Italy is open until November and the Col de l’Iseran too, so take advantage before the first snowfall to discover sublime landscapes cut off from the world. Accessible by car or bike, these itineraries, open only a few months of the year, allow you to reach other valleys of exceptional charm.
  • Did you know that it’s possible to sleep in an unguarded refuge? During the off-season the Refuge du Fond des fours and that of Prariond remain open! After your stay, go to this platform to pay (which helps guarantee the proper upkeep of our refuges).

Thrills and spills! sport is here

    • The more athletic among you will take to the trails of the Bike Park without lifts, so when you get to the top all you have to do is enjoy yourself and hurtle down the slopes! Please note that the slopes are only accessible by eBike and VTTAE. All signage and infrastructure will remain in place until the All Saints’ vacation, so for more details, take a look at the Tignes – Val d’Isère Bike Park trail map.
    • Climb to the very top of the cliff by taking one of the Via Ferrata routes! Don’t forget to bring your own safety equipment.
